We compete every Friday evening (first event at 5.30pm) from September through until March the following year. Members of our committee coordinate our competition nights, with help from parents and carers – our wonderful volunteers!
Our program consists of six weeks of events, run consecutively. Athletes in U9–U17 will compete in five events while Tiny-Tots to U8 will still only do four events.
Tiny Tots follow a separate program to help develop their fine and gross motor skills in preparation for moving up to U6 and beyond. The Tiny Tots program includes a track race on each competition night.
A separate program is used for the three rounds that contest the Centre’s Age Championships. These nights are held in October, November and February. On these nights we compete in ‘Carnival mode’. This means that boys and girls track races will be run separately.
We ask all parents/carers to assist us on these nights by toning down the coaching or directions on the night. We are aiming to find an Age Champion for each age group, and therefore we need to be stricter when our young athletes foul at their field events.
Walk races will have four officials judging on the track. Times for these races will be available the following week. This is a judged event and therefore we can expect to have some of our athletes disqualified (DQ) on the night of walks.
As the track events are run separately, we can expect to run a little bit longer on the night, however some of the age groups will only be doing four events instead of their usual five per night.
Refer to the Calendar of events for dates of Age Championship nights.
